Needham police report multiple fraud, theft incidents over the week

NEEDHAM — A series of fraudulent activities, thefts, and other incidents have kept Needham Police Department busy over the past week, with reports ranging from scam texts to identity fraud and attempted larceny.

On Nov. 18, at about 11:13 a.m., an officer took a fraud report from a Great Plain Avenue resident.

Later the same day, around 2:30 p.m., a Glendale Road resident reported receiving threatening text messages and demands for money.

The individual was informed it was a scam and given advice on how to proceed.

That evening, officers assisted an outside agency with legal processes at a Highland Avenue address.

Early the next morning, at 12:07 a.m., officers responded to a reported theft on Great Plain Avenue, which is currently under investigation.

On Nov. 20, a 43-year-old Boston resident was summoned to Dedham District Court for operating an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle without an inspection sticker following a traffic stop at around 12:43 p.m. on Highland Avenue.

By evening, a Richdale Road resident reported an attempted package theft that was foiled by the delivery driver.

The following day, Nov. 21, began with a report of past larceny from a Gordon Road resident at about 9 a.m., closely followed by an identity fraud case on Otis Street.

Multiple unsuccessful attempts to open new lines of credit had been made in the victim’s name.

Later that morning, a Highland Avenue business owner reported damage to a cotton candy machine after someone had entered her shop without permission.

A Chestnut Street business owner also reported an attempted check fraud around 9:49 a.m.

On Nov. 22, Needham police and fire departments responded to a generator fire on Charles River Street around 4:48 p.m., which was quickly extinguished without injuries.

The morning of Nov. 23 saw officers de-escalate a road rage incident at the intersection of School and Lincoln Streets.

That evening, a citizen walked in to report suspicious activity on their bank account, which is now under investigation.

Early on Nov. 24, officers assisted the fire department with a residential fire on Crescent Road.

Later in the morning, a 46-year-old Boston man was arrested after a traffic stop led to charges including operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and possession with intent to distribute a Class D substance.

The day also saw officers dispatched to investigate a suspicious vehicle on A Street and to respond to a past larceny report at a Chestnut Street residence.

The Needham Police Department continues to investigate several of the incidents and advises the public to remain vigilant against fraud and to report any suspicious activities.
