WEBSTER — A man with 21 open charges, including numerous firearms offenses, was arrested Monday morning after he allegedly attempted to stab a woman in Webster.
At around 7:27 a.m. on Nov. 18, Webster Police Officers were dispatched to 24 Mechanic Street following reports of an attempted armed assault.
The suspect had reportedly fled on foot toward Main Street.
Sergeant Reed and Sergeant Mroczek, with Officers Trainor, Rockwood, Young Jr., and Melhouse, responded to the scene to investigate.
Sergeant Mroczek located a man matching the suspect’s description in the lower end of Main Street.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Larry Obrien of Mechanic Street, Southbridge, was detained while officers interviewed the victim.
The victim, who did not know Obrien personally, indicated that they might have mutual acquaintances.
Obrien allegedly brandished a knife, causing the victim to fear being stabbed and to alert authorities.
Upon further investigation, Webster Police Officers and Detectives found and executed a search warrant on a vehicle Obrien had been using around the time of the incident.
Inside the vehicle, they discovered a knife consistent with the one used during the attempted assault, additional knives, and items suggesting involvement with narcotics sales and distribution.
Obrien was taken into custody and brought before the Dudley District Court on charges of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife) and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon.
With a criminal history spanning back to 2001, Obrien has been charged with 75 offenses and currently has multiple open charges from 2024, including firearms and drug-related crimes.
