EXETER — The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office is calling for the public’s assistance in locating two individuals who fled from Exeter hospital on Nov. 27.

John Pownall, 57, and Ashley Gustafson, 36, made their escape around 10:40 a.m. Pownall, who was detained under a court order to stay hospitalized until fit to return to the Rockingham County Jail, left with Gustafson in a white Kia four-door sedan with an unidentified New Hampshire license plate number.

Shortly after their escape, they were spotted at a CVS parking lot in Stratham, where Gustafson reportedly helped Pownall remove his ankle monitoring device before they fled in an uncertain direction.

Both Pownall and Gustafson currently have active arrest warrants.

The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, led by High Sheriff Charles Massahos, urges anyone with information about their whereabouts to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (603) 679-2225 or their local police department.

Authorities caution the public not to approach or attempt to apprehend the suspects.

The vehicle they left in is similar to the white Kia sedan shown but not the exact car.
