DURHAM — The Durham Police Department is appealing to the public for assistance in locating a missing University of New Hampshire student, Alexis Garcia, who was last seen by friends on Nov. 21.

Deputy Chief Holmstock released a statement on Wednesday, announcing that the 24-year-old was the subject of a welfare check initiated on Tuesday morning at 8:08 a.m. after Garcia had not been in contact with anyone since the previous Thursday.

Garcia’s black 2021 Mercedes was found at the Scammell Bridge rest area off Route 4 in Durham.

The vehicle had been parked and unoccupied from Saturday at 8:30 p.m. until Tuesday morning, when it was secured by police.

Standing 5 feet 9 inches tall, Garcia, with brown hair and brown eyes, has not had his last known clothing described.

Originally from Illinois, Garcia has connections to the US Navy and the US Air Force ROTC.

Authorities have indicated that they do not suspect foul play in Garcia’s disappearance.

The Durham Police Department is urging anyone with information related to Garcia’s whereabouts or anyone who believes they might have seen him to contact them at [email protected].
