BOSTON — A 52-year-old Malden man was arrested for allegedly shoplifting $1,770 worth of goods from a Lululemon store at the Prudential Mall on Monday afternoon.

Michael Gouthro was taken into custody around 3:18 p.m. after Boston Police Department officers, assigned to District D-4 in the South End, responded to a call of a larceny in progress at the 800 Boylston Street location.

The police operations team provided a description of the suspect, who was reportedly seen fleeing the area.

On their arrival, officers spotted Gouthro descending a staircase toward the mall’s exit.

They stopped him and noticed he appeared to be concealing items under his arm, pinned to his body.

Upon further investigation, they found the merchandise, which still had the store’s tags attached.

The stolen items were returned to the store manager, and Gouthro was charged with Shoplifting by Concealing.

He is set to be arraigned at the Boston Municipal Court.
