Maine fire marshal investigates deadly Amity house fire

AMITY — The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fatal house fire that occurred on Saturday at a residence in Amity.

The blaze at 44 Emily Drive was reported at 2:30 p.m. and brought the Houlton Fire Department to the scene, where firefighters encountered a building heavily damaged by fire.

Following the extinguishment of the flames, investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office discovered human remains amid the debris.

Authorities have not yet positively identified the remains, which will be sent to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for identification.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office, which was alerted to the incident by the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department.
