OLD TOWN — A Maine State Police trooper arrested a man after stopping his vehicle, which was driving the wrong way on Interstate 95, authorities said Friday.
Sgt. Christopher Hashey positioned himself near mile marker 197 after the Bangor Regional Communications Center received multiple calls around 6 p.m. reporting a driver traveling south in the northbound lanes near mile marker 205.
Despite initially evading Hashey, the driver, identified as 60-year-old Eric Nicolar of Indian Island, was later stopped when he took the exit 197 on-ramp going the wrong direction.
Hashey used his patrol car to immobilize Nicolar’s vehicle.
Nicolar was arrested and charged with operating under the influence, driving to endanger, and failure to stop.
He was booked into the Penobscot County Jail.
Both vehicles involved were towed due to damage, but no injuries were reported.
The Maine State Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
