AUBURN — Maine State Police responded to a multi-vehicle accident involving a passenger car, a box truck, and a tractor trailer at around 12:30 a.m. Friday on the Maine Turnpike.
The incident occurred at mile marker 75 northbound when the passenger vehicle reportedly lost control and spun out, coming to a halt in the travel lanes.
The vehicle was then hit by a box truck, which subsequently collided with a tractor trailer.
The box truck overturned and rolled over the guardrail, coming to a stop partway down an embankment.
The driver of the box truck was the only person injured in the crash and was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Traffic was squeezed to a single lane for approximately two and a half hours while crews worked to remove the box truck and tractor trailer from the scene.
The Maine State Police were aided by the Maine Turnpike Authority, State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, and the Auburn Fire Department in their response to the accident.
Copp Motors was tasked with the removal of the larger vehicles.
While the crash is still under investigation, authorities have identified speed and wet road conditions as likely contributing factors to the accident.
