EAST WINDSOR — A man with a history of evading police and multiple pending cases was arrested Thursday after a high-speed chase that ended with a collision and the discovery of drugs and a child in the vehicle.
Steven Samuels, 34, was taken into custody following a coordinated effort by the East Windsor Police Department to apprehend him as he traveled along Stoughton Road around 4 p.m. Samuels had been the subject of an investigation after evading several police agencies in Connecticut.
Corporal Smith attempted to stop Samuels’ gold Toyota Sienna but the vehicle fled, leading to a pursuit that ended when Samuels collided with a patrol car and veered off the road.
Officers were forced to break into the locked vehicle to arrest Samuels, who resisted but was uninjured.
He requested medical attention and was cleared at Hartford Hospital.
During the incident, Samuels revealed that his son was in the car.
The 7-year-old boy was safely removed and assessed by EMS before being released to his mother.
A search of the vehicle revealed suspected drugs, including psilocybin mushrooms, fentanyl pills, marijuana, and various drug paraphernalia.
Samuels faces charges including risk of injury to a child, possession with intent to distribute narcotics and hallucinogens, and reckless driving.
He was released on a $100,000 bond with a court date set for Dec. 3 at GA14.
