DARIEN — In a swift response to a potential threat at Darien High School, law enforcement and school officials coordinated a “shelter in place” procedure today after the Darien Police Department was alerted by the F.B.I. to a concerning social media post made by a student.
The Darien Police, along with the School Resource Officer and school administration, acted quickly to locate the student involved.
An investigation determined that there was no credible threat to the school or the community, allowing the high school to resume normal operations shortly thereafter.
Chief of Police Jeremiah P. Marron Jr. emphasized the seriousness with which the department treats any potential safety issues in schools.
“Anything that resembles a potential threat… will be dealt with thoroughly,” Marron stated, asserting the department’s commitment to student safety and the full enforcement of the law.
Although the scene was cleared, the incident remains under active investigation by the Darien Police Patrol and Detective Divisions, the School Resource Officer, and in coordination with the School Security Staff and school administration.
Marron expressed his gratitude to the Darien Police personnel who responded promptly, many on their own time, to ensure the safety of the community.
He also commended the collaboration and professionalism of the Town of Darien Superintendent of Schools, the Director of School Security, and the high school administration.
No further information about the investigation has been released at this time.
