SEARSBURG — A Readsboro man escaped injury after his vehicle slid off a snow-covered road and down an embankment early Friday morning, state police said.
Timothy Darter, 54, was driving north on Route 8 near Sleepy Hollow Road at 6:56 a.m. when his 2020 Toyota C-HR veered off the right side of the roadway, according to Vermont State Police from the Shaftsbury Barracks.
The vehicle came to rest against a small group of trees about 20 feet down a steep embankment.
Troopers said snow and ice appeared to be contributing factors in the single-vehicle crash.
Darter was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the incident.
His vehicle sustained heavy damage to the driver’s side.
Route 8 was snow-covered at the time of the crash as a winter storm moved through the area.
