1 min read

WINDHAM — A white cargo van crashed into a granite mailbox post on Heritage Hill Road this morning and fled the scene, the Windham Police Department reported.

At around 10:15 a.m., the van, similar to the one depicted in a photo provided by police (not the actual vehicle), veered off the road, crossed a resident’s lawn, and collided with the mailbox post before leaving the area.

Despite extensive searches by patrol units, the vehicle has not been located.

The police expressed relief that the incident did not occur when children might have been nearby, such as during school bus pick-up or drop-off times, which could have resulted in more severe consequences.

The collision is estimated to have caused thousands of dollars in damages.

Investigators have recovered parts of the vehicle at the scene, indicating that the front passenger side sustained damage.

Windham Police are urging anyone who may recognize the vehicle or who may have had contractors working in the vicinity to come forward with information.

Witnesses and those with relevant information can contact Windham Police Officer De Souza anonymously at (603)434-5577 or via email at [email protected].
