Hingham woman charged with DUI after hitting pedestrian

HINGHAM — A Hingham woman was arrested Thursday night for alleged repeat drunk driving after she struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk, authorities said.

At 7:03 p.m., Hingham Police officers responded to the intersection of Water St. and Mill St. following reports of a pedestrian hit by an SUV.

The pedestrian, a 58-year-old woman from Whitman, was crossing Water Street in the marked crosswalk when the incident occurred.

Following an investigation at the scene, the SUV driver, identified as 75-year-old Suzanne Collins of 42 Floret Circle, was arrested.

The Whitman woman was transported to South Shore Hospital with non-life threatening injuries by Hingham Fire Paramedics.

Collins faces charges including Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol (2nd Offense), Negligent Operation, and Failure to Yield to Pedestrian in Crosswalk.

After posting a $500 cash bail, she was released for her arraignment at Hingham District Court set for Nov. 22.
