Two-vehicle hit-and-run crash under investigation in Wallingford

WALLINGFORD — A hit-and-run collision occurred on Main Street near the Citgo station, leaving one vehicle with significant damage and the other with moderate damage, Vermont State Police reported.

The crash took place on Nov. 20 at around 11:32 a.m. when a Mercury Mountaineer operated by an unknown driver struck a Subaru Outback driven by 70-year-old Robin Taft of Poultney.

The Mountaineer, which sustained significant damage to the right fender and wheel well, fled the scene at a high speed after briefly stopping.

Taft, who was wearing a seatbelt, reported no injuries at the time of the incident.

Authorities are seeking information about the Mercury Mountaineer, which is missing parts of the right fender, right wheel liner, and has damage to the right headlight.

The Vermont State Police, assisted by the Rutland County Sheriff’s Department and Wallingford Fire Department, are investigating the crash.
