Somerville sees spike in assaults and break-ins

SOMERVILLE — A series of assaults and residential break-ins have raised concerns in Somerville, with police responding to multiple incidents over the past week.

On Nov. 14 at approximately 5:20 p.m., officers were called to a residence on Warren Ave after a report of a past breaking and entering.

The homeowner discovered the door damaged and a guitar missing upon returning home.

In a separate incident on Nov. 13 around 11:56 a.m., police were dispatched to a business on Broadway following an assault.

A suspect was arrested after allegedly attacking an employee during a haircut.

Violence continued at Chuckie Harris Park on Nov. 18 when, at about 10:45 p.m., a victim reported being assaulted by a group of males, resulting in facial injuries and the theft of his cellphone.

Another assault occurred on Nov. 17 shortly after 5:36 p.m. on Broadway, where a fight between two males left one with facial injuries.

The following incident on Nov. 19 at approximately 9:20 a.m. involved an assault in a shared Uber ride at the intersection of Somerville Ave and Park St. The victim sustained an eye injury after being attacked by another female passenger.

Another report of a past breaking and entering was filed on Nov. 15 at around 6:20 p.m. on North St, where a victim noticed an unknown male entering the apartment; however, nothing was reported stolen.

In addition to these incidents, Somerville Police also recorded other crimes, including one act of vandalism, one incident of motor vehicle vandalism, one motor vehicle theft, one bicycle theft, and two package thefts.

The police are investigating these incidents and have not provided any information on potential suspects for the unresolved cases.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
