ENFIELD — At around 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 20, Enfield High School was placed on lockdown after a student reported hearing what sounded like the slide of a handgun being racked in a bathroom.
Enfield Police Department school resource officers and additional police personnel swiftly responded to the scene.
The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Martin Williams of Enfield, was located in a classroom by officers.
Williams was detained and a pat-down revealed what initially appeared to be a functional handgun in his waistband.
Upon further inspection, authorities determined that the weapon was designed to contain BB gun components and a BB gun magazine.
Despite the weapon being less lethal than a real firearm, Williams was arrested and charged with multiple offenses.
The charges against Williams include carrying a dangerous weapon, possessing a weapon on school grounds, reckless endangerment in the first degree, risk of injury to a child, and breach of peace in the first degree.
He is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.
The swift action by school staff and the Enfield Police Department ensured no one was harmed during the incident.
The lockdown was lifted after the arrest, and the school day continued without further disruption.
