EXETER — A pedestrian was fatally struck by an Amtrak train in Exeter, prompting an investigation by local police.

Exeter Police responded to the wooded area along the train tracks between Front Street and Powder Mill Rd around 1:20 p.m. after receiving a report from train authorities about the incident.

Early findings suggest the individual, who was walking on the tracks, did not notice the oncoming southbound train and was hit from behind.

The Exeter Police Department is collaborating with the Amtrak Police and CSX Police Investigators to determine the circumstances surrounding the event.

The case is ongoing.
