MENDON — A Mendon man was killed early Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Wheelerville Rd.
Vermont State Police responded to the scene near 6454 Wheelerville Rd. at around 8:08 a.m., where they discovered a 2015 Nissan Titan off the road and against a tree.
The driver, Christopher Black, 42, of West Rutland, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
Authorities said Black was traveling southbound when he failed to maintain his lane, veering off the east side of the road and colliding with the tree.
The vehicle sustained total damage, and it was unclear if Black was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident.
The road conditions were clear and dry under a cold, clear sky.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The Vermont State Police were assisted by the Regional Ambulance Service and the Rutland City Fire Department.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
