TOWNSHEND — The Vermont State Police is investigating an assault that occurred at Grace Cottage Hospital on Wednesday morning and is asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect.

Hospital officials called VSP shortly after the incident, which took place around 9:30 a.m., reporting that a patient, identified as Adam Rauch, 22, from San Diego, California, had attacked a nurse and caused property damage before fleeing the premises on foot.

Rauch is described as a potential risk to the public, as he may be in crisis and potentially dangerous.

Concerns for his welfare have also been raised.

He is said to be 6 feet tall, weighing 210 pounds, with a muscular build and blond hair.

His last known attire included blue hospital scrub pants, a blue paper top, and he was barefoot.

Authorities have urged anyone who spots Rauch to avoid approaching him and to immediately contact 911 or the Vermont State Police at the Westminster barracks by calling 802-722-4600.

The suspect is wanted for assault on a protected professional and unlawful mischief.

Following the assault, the nurse received treatment for facial injuries and has been released.

The incident prompted Grace Cottage Hospital and nearby schools to implement temporary safety measures, which have since been lifted.

The state police have not disclosed further information but will provide updates as the investigation progresses.
