FORT KENT — A single-vehicle accident early Tuesday morning on Frenchville Rd left a local woman in critical condition, authorities said.
The Fort Kent Police Department, along with Fort Kent Fire and Ambulance Service Inc., responded to the crash at around 7 a.m. Firefighters utilized the Jaws of Life to extricate Brenda Guerrette, 48, of Madawaska, from her red 2024 Jeep Rubicon.
After being freed from the wrecked vehicle, Guerrette was rushed to Northern Maine Medical Center by ambulance.
Police report that she was travelling eastbound when her vehicle failed to navigate a curve, veered off the road, tumbled down an embankment, and struck a railroad bed, rolling several times before coming to a stop.
The accident prompted a temporary closure of Frenchville Rd, restricting traffic to a single lane until the scene was cleared by emergency personnel.
The Fort Kent Police Department received additional support from the US Border Patrol, Frenchville Fire, and Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstructionist, Deputy Matt Brown.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
