CHELSEA — A fatal moped accident on Marginal Street near Highland Avenue claimed the life of a rider this afternoon, according to the Chelsea Police Department.
At approximately 1:50 p.m., police officers arrived at the scene where the moped had crashed into a utility pole.
The operator of the moped sustained severe injuries and was later pronounced dead at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Authorities are withholding the identity of the victim until the family is notified.
The initial investigation suggests that no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Chelsea Police, along with State Police Detectives from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and accident reconstruction experts, are continuing to investigate to determine the cause of the accident.
