At 1:38 p.m., Boston Police officers from District C-11 responded to a call about an individual with a gun near the Neighborhood Charter School at 197 Centre St. Witnesses reported seeing a person with a firearm after being approached by two juveniles in a stolen vehicle.

Upon arrival, police spotted the vehicle on Cheverus St. and saw one juvenile exit the car while another stayed in the driver’s seat.

One juvenile fled on foot as officers approached, initiating a pursuit.

As he ran behind a house on Cheverus Street, officers observed him throw an object over a fence.

After a brief chase, police apprehended the suspect and recovered a Smith and Wesson SD40VE .40 caliber handgun with ammunition from a nearby pile of leaves.

The vehicle was confirmed as stolen and was subsequently towed.

The 13-year-old is expected to face charges in Dorchester District Court, including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition, and trespassing.
