Vermont State Police identify victims of Montpelier double homicide

MONTPELIER — Vermont State Police on Monday identified the two individuals killed in last week’s Montpelier incident as Jerry Gomes, 77, and Mary Gomes, 60, the parents of the suspect in the case.

Autopsies conducted by the Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington concluded that both victims died from blunt force trauma.

The deaths have been ruled homicides.

The suspect, Matthew Gomes, 29, is the couple’s son and is scheduled to be arraigned at 1 p.m. today in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Barre.
