Keene bicyclist injured in collision with DUI driver

KEENE — A collision between a motor vehicle and a bicycle in Keene early Saturday morning left a local man with severe injuries, and the driver of the vehicle has been charged with DUI, authorities said.

The Keene Police Department reported that officers responded to the incident on West Street around 2:45 a.m. The bicyclist, identified as 48-year-old James LaPoint of Keene, was transported to Cheshire Medical Center for treatment of severe, but not life-threatening, injuries.

The driver of the 2010 Toyota Tundra involved in the collision was 24-year-old Benjamin Mazzoni of Londonderry, N.H.

Following an investigation by the Keene Police Collision Analysis Team, Mazzoni was arrested on charges of driving under the influence.

Mazzoni has been released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in the 8th Circuit Court in Keene on Nov. 25.

The Keene Police Department’s investigation into the incident is ongoing.
