SPRINGFIELD — A 16-year-old boy was arrested Saturday morning after allegedly driving a stolen vehicle that struck a police officer, according to the Springfield Police Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:35 a.m. on Nov. 16 when officers from the C3 Unit, Traffic Unit, and Squad “B” of the uniform division located a stolen Hyundai at a gas station on the 0-100 block of Boston Road.

The car, which had been reported stolen two days prior on Nov. 14, was running and occupied by four individuals.

As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the juvenile driver put the car in reverse, hitting one officer in the arm and narrowly missing two others.

The officer sustained an arm injury and was later treated and released from Baystate Medical Center.

Following the confrontation, the suspect drove over a curb onto Berkshire Avenue, prompting a brief pursuit.

The stolen car was found crashed on the 400 block of Berkshire Avenue, and the occupants fled on foot into nearby woods.

Police successfully apprehended the 16-year-old driver, whose identity will remain confidential due to his age.

Details on the specific charges against the juvenile are withheld, as are his booking photo and name.
