1 min read

CLAREMONT — Claremont Police Department issued a warning today about an uptick in scams aimed at the city’s older adult population.

Authorities report that fraudsters have been contacting elderly individuals, alleging to have mistakenly sent money and requesting repayment in Bitcoin.

In a separate scheme, scammers are impersonating representatives from reputable companies such as Microsoft, asking for bank details to settle supposed overdue bills.

The police urge residents to remain alert and cautious when dealing with unsolicited requests for money or personal financial information.

They advise against sending money or providing bank details to unknown parties, particularly in untraceable forms like cryptocurrencies.

Elderly citizens or their relatives who suspect they may have fallen victim to these deceptive practices are encouraged to contact the Claremont Police Department for support and guidance at 603-542-9538.

The department is actively working to combat these fraudulent activities and protect the community’s vulnerable members.
