BENTON — Maine State Police responded to a fatal accident on Interstate 95 on Sunday, where 20-year-old Isaiah Mathieu of Clinton was found deceased after his vehicle crashed.
The incident occurred around 4:17 p.m. near mile marker 134 on the northbound lane of I-95.
Troopers arriving at the scene discovered that Mathieu, the only person in the car, had failed to navigate a curve, causing his 2004 Chevy Trax to veer off the right side of the highway and collide with a guardrail.
After the initial impact, Mathieu’s vehicle sustained substantial damage before coming to rest in a ditch near the tree line.
While the precise cause of the incident is still under investigation, early indications suggest that high speed and the driver’s inability to negotiate the bend were contributing factors to the tragic outcome.
Maine State Police were aided by Maine Department of Transportation, Clinton Fire Department, and Blanchard’s Towing in responding to the accident.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
