NEWPORT — Fitness Warehouse, a gym in Newport co-owned by longtime friends Dane Martin and Tom Lowell, is redefining fitness for locals of all ages and experience levels. Since acquiring the business, Martin and Lowell have focused on creating a welcoming environment that combines the benefits of group workouts, personal training, flexible class offerings, and 24-hour access for individual workouts.
Martin, who leads the gym’s classes, describes their unique “Warehouse 360” approach as “a general fitness class that changes every day.” This program delivers dynamic, movement-focused routines that keep things fresh and engaging. You’ll tackle bodyweight exercises, power through free weight sets, and master kettlebell techniques to build strength and agility.
“We focus on a specific movement or lift for strength, then go into a 15 to 25 minute circuit workout,” Martin explained. This approach ensures workouts are adaptable to all fitness levels, with clients ranging from their 20s to as old as 75.
“Any movement can be scaled or tailored to someone’s ability,” he added.
Fitness Warehouse fosters a sense of community through its group classes, where members draw motivation from each other’s progress. Lowell has seen firsthand the benefits of group dynamics.
“The bigger the class, the more energy people bring,” Lowell said. “Clients feed off each other’s enthusiasm and often feel more accountable and motivated to push themselves.”
However, for those who prefer solo workouts or need more flexibility, the gym also offers a dedicated open gym space, allowing members to work out independently on their own schedule. This flexibility ensures Fitness Warehouse serves both social fitness enthusiasts and those who prefer a more private approach.
Their bond and shared passion for fitness stretch back decades.
“We started working out together at age 16,” Lowell reminisced. “It was a kid goal of ours to one day own a gym, and now here we are.”
Formerly Pride Fitness, the facility was revamped under their ownership to include updated equipment, additional class times, and around-the-clock access that accommodates various lifestyles.
In addition to classes, Fitness Warehouse is expanding its personal training services. Martin, the lead trainer, is joined by two other trainers, one of whom is a certified nutritionist set to offer nutritional coaching, adding another layer of support for members aiming to achieve well-rounded wellness.
The owners’ vision for Fitness Warehouse stems from their dedication to Newport.
“We felt this area deserved a high-quality gym,” Lowell shared, emphasizing that they aimed to bring something new to the community. With group classes that build accountability and camaraderie, plus flexible solo options, Fitness Warehouse offers more than just a place to work out—it’s a space where members can pursue fitness on their terms.
To ensure accessibility, Fitness Warehouse offers free first-time classes.
“You literally have nothing to lose,” Lowell emphasized, encouraging newcomers to see for themselves how every class can be tailored to fit individual needs.
For those interested in exploring the gym, Fitness Warehouse can be reached via Facebook or by visiting the facility in Newport. The first class is always free, inviting newcomers to experience the community’s spirit and fitness potential firsthand.
