TOPSHAM — A routine traffic stop led to a significant drug trafficking arrest Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
Members of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a vehicle at approximately 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Main Street and Old Augusta Road for the use of a handheld device by the driver.
Suspicion arose when the male driver claimed not to understand English but complied with every request from the deputy.
A K-9 team was called to the scene and indicated the presence of drugs.
A subsequent search of the vehicle by deputies uncovered 107.7 grams of Fentanyl and 17.6 grams of cocaine base hidden in the dashboard near the steering column.
Also found in the trunk were a digital scale and glassine baggies, commonly associated with drug trafficking.
The driver, identified as 27-year-old Michael Colon-Guerrero of Gray, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs, Class A, and Unlawful Trafficking of Schedule W Drugs, Class B.
Colon-Guerrero is currently being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset on $5,000 bail awaiting his initial court appearance.
The deputies involved in the stop and arrest were Deputy Garrett Olson, Deputy Will Hagan, Deputy Zac Kindelan, and K-9 Hero.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
