New Bedford teen arrested with loaded firearm, linked to September shooting

NEW BEDFORD — Detectives have arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with a September shooting incident and found him in possession of a loaded firearm, the New Bedford Police Department announced Wednesday.

On Nov. 12, law enforcement officials located the juvenile, who was wanted for his alleged involvement in a shooting that transpired in early September at an apartment on Studley Street.

According to the police report, a shot was fired into the floor of the residence during the incident.

The teenager was taken into custody without any complications.

During his arrest, detectives discovered a Glock 17 handgun on the suspect, loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition and equipped with an extended magazine capable of holding up to 34 rounds.

The Major Crimes Division, with support from state troopers assigned to the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS) unit, which focuses on apprehending individuals prone to violence, played a critical role in the arrest.

The New Bedford Police Department encourages anyone with additional information to come forward.
