NEWPORT — The Vermont Community Foundation has awarded $102,842 in grants to 23 organizations across the Northeast Kingdom through its Northeast Kingdom Fund’s 2024 competitive grant round.
The grants, supporting nonprofits and municipalities in Caledonia, Essex, and Orleans counties, focus on youth programs, substance abuse prevention, education, arts, and outdoor initiatives.
Local recipients include Journey to Recovery Community Center ($5,000), Leach Public Library ($3,432), Memphremagog Community Maritime ($5,000), North Country Supervisory Union ($4,000), Northeast Kingdom Learning Services ($5,000), Orleans Essex Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice ($5,000), and Town of Canaan Recreation Park ($2,000).
“The grantees represent a wonderful mix of extracurricular programs for youth, community get togethers, outdoor adventure, and stewardship of NEK towns and landscapes,” said Holly Morehouse, vice president of Community Impact at the Vermont Community Foundation.
Established in 2011, the fund prioritizes Northeast Kingdom-based projects providing direct community services. A committee of local residents reviews proposals and selects recipients.
The next grant round opens in June 2025.
