Needham police busy with arrests, summons, and investigations

NEEDHAM — The Needham Police Department reported a series of arrests, summons, and other incidents over the past week, highlighting the varied nature of law enforcement work in the community.

On the morning of Nov. 4, a resident of Arch St. sought assistance at the police station for out-of-state licensure issues.

Later that morning, a 28-year-old Worcester resident was stopped on Oak St. after failing to yield while turning, nearly causing a crash.

The unlicensed driver was also found to have not secured a child under eight in a car seat and will be summoned to Dedham District Court on multiple charges.

The same afternoon, officers responded to a report of shoplifting at a Great Plain Ave business.

A witness observed someone placing items in a bag and leaving without paying.

A Chestnut Street business also reported interference with a petition-signing process.

The individual causing the disturbance was advised against such actions.

Officers investigated a suspicious phone call on Junction St and responded to a disturbance on B St, with the individual in question leaving before police arrived.

On Nov. 5, a 72-year-old Needham woman was arrested in Needham Heights for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer, and operating under the influence.

The following day, officers addressed a disturbance on Savoy Rd, vandalism at Mills Field, a property dispute on Oakcrest Rd, and a lost passport report from a 2nd Ave resident.

Nov. 7 saw the disposal of a suspicious item found at a 3rd Ave business and the arrest of a 69-year-old Newton resident for assaulting a public employee.

Reports of fraudulent activity kept officers busy on Nov. 8, with incidents on Concord Street and Audrey Ave.

An injured deer on Central Ave required police dispatch, and another Central Ave resident reported fraud.

On Nov. 9, officers conducted a property check on Paul Revere Road and spoke to another Central Ave resident about fraud.

The day ended with a house fire on Hunnewell St. that resulted in minor damage thanks to the quick response of the Needham Fire Department.

The week’s incidents concluded with further investigations into shoplifting on Chestnut St, damage to a mailbox on Great Plain Ave, larceny on Highland Ave, identity fraud on Castano Court, and the house fire.
