FALL RIVER — A man was arrested on Nov. 9 after Fall River Police Department officers found him in possession of an untraceable firearm, commonly known as a “ghost gun.”

Members of the Patrol Bureau responded to a call at the intersection of Peckham and Barrett streets regarding a report of a male with a firearm.

Officers, while en route, received a description of the suspect and his last known direction.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers were given the identity of the suspect, Jamauri Bates, 24, who was later spotted walking near Tuttle and Benjamin streets.

Officer Joseph Bailey attempted to approach Bates, who then fled on foot.

A brief chase ensued, resulting in Bates’ apprehension.

Bates was found to be carrying a Polymer 80 Ghost Gun, a type of firearm that is unserialized and difficult to trace.

He faces multiple charges related to firearms offenses.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided as they become available.
