LEICESTER — A Bristol man was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and assaulting first responders after a single-vehicle crash on Delorm Road near Town Farm Road, authorities said.

Collin Bell, 41, was driving a 2004 Honda Civic that was totaled in the crash reported at about 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 13, according to Vermont State Police.

First responders found Bell unresponsive upon arrival.

While providing medical assistance, Bell became combative and assaulted a Brandon Police Officer and two Brandon Firefighters with bodily fluids, police said.

Troopers later met with Bell at Porter Medical Center, where signs of drug impairment were noted.

Bell consented to a blood test and was subsequently released to hospital staff with a citation to appear in Addison County Superior Court, Criminal Division, for the charges of DUI-Drugs and three counts of assault of a protected professional with bodily fluids.

Bell, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, sustained minor injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred under clear skies and on dry road conditions.
