Wethersfield woman charged in group home assault

WETHERSFIELD — On Wednesday, Oct. 30, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Wethersfield Police responded to an assault report at a HARC, Inc. administered group home located at 50 Eastern Drive, where a 28-year-old non-verbal autistic woman was allegedly assaulted by a staff member.

The incident, which occurred in the early morning hours of Oct. 13, resulted in the victim sustaining multiple head and facial lacerations and a closed nasal fracture.

She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Following the investigation, two employees were terminated from the group home prior to the police being informed of the incident.

The case was then assigned to the Patrol Bureau.

Kendra A. Demudd, 24, of Hartford turned herself in to authorities on Nov. 13, after an arrest warrant was issued by the New Britain Superior Court.

Demudd faces charges including Assault of a Person with Intellectual Disability in the 2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd Degree, and Cruelty to Persons.

She is currently held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled for arraignment at the New Britain Superior Court today.
