South Portland woman survives nephew’s knife attack, suspect found dead

SOUTH PORTLAND — On the evening of Nov. 9, at approximately 5:21 p.m., South Portland Police were dispatched to a residence on 38 Memory Lane following a report of a domestic incident involving a 70-year-old woman and her 50-year-old nephew.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the woman suffering from multiple knife wounds after being attacked by her nephew.

South Portland Fire/Rescue provided immediate medical assistance to the heavily bleeding victim, who was then transported to Maine Medical Center.

Authorities reported that she sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive.

The suspect was found deceased in the home from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No criminal charges will be filed due to the nature of the incident, and the names of the individuals involved have not been released by the police.
