RUSSELL — Emergency crews rushed to the site of a partial building collapse at the former Strathmore Mill #1 Complex on Woronoco Road on Nov. 11, where three subcontractors were injured, authorities said.
The Russell-Montgomery Police Department was notified of the incident at 2:52 p.m., and units from the Massachusetts State Police, the Russell Fire Department, Huntington Fire Department, and Hilltown Community Ambulance quickly responded.
Upon arrival, first responders found that a section of the north side of the complex had caved in.
Seven individuals, all subcontractors with Complete Property Solutions LLC of Batavia, Ohio, were initially inside during the collapse.
Three were trapped but were subsequently rescued by co-workers.
Two of the injured were transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, one via ambulance and another by LifeStar helicopter due to more serious injuries.
Both are currently reported to be in stable condition.
The mill complex has been undergoing material removal and recycling by Complete Property Solutions LLC for the past month.
The property is owned by Donald Voudren Sr. of Huntington.
The cause of the collapse is under investigation by various agencies, including the Town of Russell Building Inspector, Jason Forge.
