1 min read

OLD TOWN — On Sunday, a box truck led Old Town Police on a high-speed chase that ended with the driver crashing and attempting to flee on foot before being apprehended by local law enforcement.

At approximately 11:26 p.m., Officer Bryce Richards of the Old Town Police Department attempted to stop the vehicle as it crossed the Stillwater Avenue bridge.

The driver, later identified as Kyle Albert, 37, of Bangor, struck the bridge guardrail but continued driving onto Stillwater Avenue and then onto northbound Interstate 95.

Despite Officer Richards activating emergency lights and sirens, Albert did not comply and instead increased speed, leading police on a pursuit.

The chase saw the box truck being driven erratically until it crashed while exiting at Exit 197.

Albert then fled the vehicle and ran into the woods nearby.

A coordinated search effort involving the Orono Police Department, Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, and Maine State Police resulted in the successful capture of Albert.

Albert now faces several charges, including eluding an officer, reckless conduct, refusal to submit to arrest, driving to endanger, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

The Old Town Police Department is handling the ongoing investigation.
