BRENTWOOD — Last night at 11:23 p.m., Brentwood Police Officer Carey discovered an abandoned vehicle on North Rd. near Rt. 101.
During the investigation, Officer Carey heard what sounded like gunfire close by.
Officer Kelly was dispatched to assist in the search of the area as the two incidents seemed potentially related.
Soon after, the officers reported hearing rapid, possibly automatic gunfire.
To ensure public and officer safety, Brentwood Police called for aid from neighboring departments including Epping PD, Exeter Police, Kingston PD, Fremont PD, Raymond PD, Nottingham PD for drone support, and Danville PD’s K9 unit, alongside Brentwood’s K9 Maggie.
These forces helped manage traffic and establish a perimeter.
New Hampshire State Police also arrived to handle traffic on the nearby Rt. 101 due to the proximity of the incident to the highway.
With the support in place, Brentwood officers used a PA system and phone contact to reach out to the individual, who was located in the woods.
The person complied with the officers’ commands and was detained without further incident.
Pending charges are being filed, and multiple firearms have been confiscated.
The investigation revealed that the individual was shooting at a small tree in a Wildlife Management Zone situated between North Rd., Deerhill Rd., and Pine Rd.
Authorities have since confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to public safety following the incident.
Brentwood PD expressed gratitude to all the mutual aid partners, particularly the skilled dispatchers at the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, under High Sheriff Charles Massahos, for their efficient coordination.
Additional thanks were extended to the Plaistow and Atkinson Police Departments, which offered support if necessary.
