ORWELL — A single-vehicle crash on VT Route 22A near Cook Rd led to the arrest of a North Carolina woman on suspicion of DUI on Nov. 8.

Lauren Peters, 34, from Wilmington, NC, was driving north when her BMW Mini Cooper veiled off the road and struck a utility pole around 2:44 p.m. Peters, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Porter Medical Center by emergency responders.

Vermont State Troopers noted signs of impairment when they spoke with Peters at the scene.

She refused to undergo DUI screening and was subsequently arrested.

Peters was processed at the New Haven Barracks and released with a citation to appear in Addison County Superior Court, Criminal Division on Nov. 18 at 12:30 p.m.

The accident caused VT Route 22A to be reduced to one lane temporarily as crews worked at the site.

The Orwell Town Fire Department and Orwell First Response also provided assistance at the scene.
