CAMPTON — A former Campton resident was apprehended in Florida and is awaiting extradition to New Hampshire to face numerous charges of sexual assault against children, local authorities announced.
The Campton Police Department initiated an investigation in June after receiving reports of aggravated felonious sexual assaults involving children.
The suspect, identified as 70-year-old David Duncan, was believed to be living in Florida without a permanent address.
Through the course of the investigation, the Campton Police determined Duncan was likely homeless in Bradenton, FL, and enlisted the help of the Bradenton Police Department to locate him.
In September, Bradenton detectives found Duncan living out of his vehicle and established a watchful relationship to monitor his activities.
Following the acquisition of arrest warrants on Nov. 1, Duncan was taken into custody by Bradenton detectives.
He is currently held at the Manatee County, FL, jail on six counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault on a child, two counts of pattern aggravated felonious sexual assault on a child, and one count of felonious sexual assault.
The investigation received support from several agencies, including the Bradenton, FL Police Department, Grafton County Attorney’s Office, Derry Police Department, Plymouth Police Department, Waterville Valley Department of Public Safety, Rockingham County Child Advocacy Center, and the New England State Police Information Network (NESPIN).
The Campton Police Department expressed satisfaction with the progress of the case but emphasized the importance of due process, reminding the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
