Worcester man faces gun charges after traffic violation leads to arrest

WORCESTER — Worcester Police Department’s Crime Gun Intelligence Unit and Gang Unit arrested a man on several gun-related charges following a traffic stop on Nov. 7 at approximately 6:35 p.m.

Detectives observed a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Deng Jiff Vilayvanh failing to halt at a stop sign.

When officers attempted to pull over the vehicle on Harrison Street, Vilayvanh did not comply and instead drove to a nearby residence.

With the assistance of Gang Unit detectives, Vilayvanh was removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a loaded firearm in the glove compartment.

Investigations confirmed that Vilayvanh was not licensed to carry the weapon.

The Crime Scene Unit took possession of the firearm, and Vilayvanh now faces multiple charges.

These include Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Failure to Stop for Police, Operating to Endanger, Stop Sign Violation, and Failure to Properly Display a License Plate Number.
