WATERBURY — A man was arrested late Wednesday night after Waterbury Police Department’s Auto Theft Task Force (ATTF) located a stolen vehicle on Platt Street and subsequently apprehended the suspect attempting to flee the scene.
Officers discovered the stolen 2021 Audi A5, which had recently been reported stolen from Sherman, at approximately 11:08 p.m.
They observed a man, later identified as 25-year-old Jose Diaz of Waterbury, exiting the vehicle.
When police approached, Diaz tried to escape into a nearby apartment building, leading to a brief foot chase.
Diaz was taken into custody and has been charged with misuse of marker plates, interfering with a police officer, larceny of a motor vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle while under suspension.
With a prior history of arrests related to stolen vehicles and probation violations, Diaz is currently being held by the Connecticut Department of Corrections on a $50,000 bond.
