SEYMOUR — A Seymour man has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual assault involving minors, the Waterbury Police Department announced Tuesday.
Investigators from the Waterbury Police Department’s Criminal Investigation, Special Victim’s Unit received a complaint on Oct. 15 about a past sexual assault incident involving a minor.
According to the police report, on Sept. 28, the female victim was walking home when she was lured into a vehicle driven by Michael Dewitt, 45.
Dewitt then proceeded to sexually assault the victim inside the vehicle.
The victim did not sustain physical injuries during the incident.
Following the investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant on Oct. 25, charging Dewitt with sexual assault in the first degree, sexual assault in the fourth degree, and commercial sexual abuse of a minor.
The Waterbury Police Department also revealed that Dewitt was served with another active arrest warrant on Oct. 15 for charges relating to a separate sexual assault investigation.
In that case, which occurred on Oct. 9, a female victim was similarly lured into Dewitt’s pickup truck and sexually assaulted.
Dewitt is currently being held on a $1.3 million bond by the Connecticut Department of Corrections.
The Waterbury Police Department urges anyone with further information about these incidents or any other related to Dewitt to contact the WPD Detective Bureau at (203) 574-6941 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (203) 755-1234.
