Waterbury man faces DUI #3 after being found unconscious at wheel

WATERBURY — Vermont State Police arrested a local man on charges of driving under the influence for the third time after he was found unconscious in his vehicle on Wednesday afternoon.

Eli Fortney, 38, of Waterbury, was discovered by Troopers from the Vermont State Police Berlin Barracks at around 1:52 p.m. on Valley View Road.

Authorities were responding to a report of a motorist who appeared to be unconscious behind the wheel.

Upon arrival, Troopers noted signs of impairment with Fortney and conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.

Fortney was then taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.

Following the arrest, Fortney was processed at the Barre City Police Department.

He has been issued a citation to appear in Washington County Criminal Court to face the DUI charge.
