NEW BEDFORD — A man with a substantial criminal history was taken into custody this week on various firearm charges, according to the New Bedford Police Department.
Jordan Caetano, 43, of 13 Spooner Street Apt. #1, was arrested following an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred outside a bar on Cove Road.
On Oct. 27, officers were dispatched to the Redwood Saloon after receiving reports of gunfire.
At the scene, they discovered multiple shell casings and a live round.
New Bedford detectives executed a search warrant at Caetano’s residence a week after the shooting.
They found a backpack containing an unsecured large-capacity handgun, a high-capacity feeding device, and 255 rounds of ammunition.
Caetano faces charges including operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and related firearm offenses.
This latest arrest adds to Caetano’s lengthy record of 84 adult arraignments, including a recent 4 to 6 years state prison sentence for armed robberies.
Following his release, he was given a suspended sentence for a domestic violence matter by the New Bedford District Court.
Police Chief Paul Oliveira praised the officers’ teamwork and dedication leading to Caetano’s arrest, expressing frustration at the necessity of reallocating resources to apprehend an individual with such a history of criminal activity.
