FALL RIVER — A 16-year-old male was arrested Tuesday afternoon by the Fall River Police Department’s Community Action Suppression Team for possession of a loaded firearm with an extended magazine at Pulaski Park.

The CAST unit, which was on proactive patrol in response to local complaints about suspicious activities, spotted several males at about 3 p.m. on Pulaski Street near the park.

Two of the individuals were observed behaving in a manner suggesting they were illegally carrying firearms, and a third was believed to be armed based on recent intelligence.

Upon approaching the group, the teenager in a hooded sweatshirt fled into the park, clutching his waistband and ignoring officers’ commands.

The chase ended when police caught him attempting to scale a fence.

A semi-automatic Taurus 9mm handgun with a 32-round extended magazine, containing 20 rounds, was found on his person.

The teen now faces charges including Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License to Carry (LTC), and Carrying a Firearm without an LTC.
