FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Police Department is urging residents to lock their vehicles and secure their valuables following a recent spike in thefts and burglaries, some involving juveniles.

Recent incidents highlight risks of unsecured vehicles:

On Sept. 1, Fairfield Police responded to reports of attempted vehicle thefts on Lovers Lane.

Two juveniles on a moped were caught on security footage entering unlocked vehicles and stealing a key fob from a Range Rover.

The suspects fled before officers arrived but returned to the neighborhood the following day.

On Sept. 2, the same juveniles attempted to burglarize an occupied home on Highlawn Road, using keys stolen the previous day.

They were captured on a Ring doorbell camera trying to enter the house and an attached shed.

One of the suspects was later involved in a shooting and arrested in another town with a loaded firearm.

Both juveniles have been arrested and face multiple charges, including burglary and larceny.

In another incident on Nov. 3 at around 5:05 a.m., officers noticed suspicious activity on Smith Street and Oldfield Road.

As police approached, the suspects fled in vehicles, one of which was stopped using a tire deflation device.

A 17-year-old male from New Haven was apprehended and faces several charges.

He confirmed the group targeted Fairfield for its unsecured vehicles.

Multiple recent incidents prompt call for vigilance:

Since Sept. 1, there have been over 48 thefts from motor vehicles and 17 stolen vehicle complaints.

Police Chief Robert Kalamaras emphasized the importance of locking vehicles, removing valuables, and keeping key fobs out of cars to deter criminal activity.
