Methuen man faces charges in narcotics, firearms bust

METHUEN — Following a detailed four-month probe, the Methuen Police Department, in cooperation with the U.S.

Drug Enforcement Administration’s Cross Border Initiative, announced the arrest of a local man on multiple drug trafficking and firearms charges.

Kelvin Alvarez Pimental, 36, of Lawrence, was apprehended after law enforcement executed a search warrant at his residence on Oct. 31, uncovering a substantial amount of illegal narcotics, a handgun, ammunition, and cash.

Pimental is charged with trafficking in fentanyl, distribution of a Class A substance, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, distribution of a Class B substance, and several firearms-related offenses.

The investigation, which began in June, was initiated by the Methuen Police Street Crimes Unit in response to complaints from the community about suspected drug trafficking in the Oakland Avenue area.

Surveillance and evidence gathering led to the identification of Pimental as a suspect.

During the search, authorities seized 21 grams of powdered cocaine, 39 grams of crack cocaine, 46 grams of fentanyl, drug paraphernalia, $15,359 in cash, a 9mm handgun, and 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Chief Scott McNamara commended the collaborative effort between Methuen Police and the DEA, emphasizing the significant impact of their work on community safety.

The successful operation highlights the department’s commitment to dismantling illegal drug networks.

The Methuen Police Department continues to focus on addressing illegal drug activities and ensuring the safety of its residents.

Following his arrest, Pimental was arraigned on Monday and is being held without bail.

A dangerousness hearing is scheduled for Nov. 13.
