WATERBURY — A two-car collision occurred on US Rte. 2 near Farr Rd. Ext. on Nov. 5 at 8:42 a.m., resulting in both vehicles being totaled, but no injuries to either driver.
Vermont State Police, along with Waterbury Ambulance Service and the Waterbury Fire Department, responded to the scene of the head-on crash under cloudy skies and on wet roads.
The westbound vehicle, a 2005 Mini PT Cooper driven by Shawn Cummings, 52, of Waterbury, crossed into the eastbound lane for unknown reasons, colliding with a 2009 Toyota Corolla operated by Taylor Murray, 29, of Middlesex.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, which likely contributed to the lack of injuries.
Neither vehicle had passengers on board, and no hospitalization was necessary for Cummings or Murray.
The accident caused significant disruption to the morning traffic, with US Rte. 2 traffic being reduced to a single lane while emergency crews worked to investigate the crash and clear the wreckage.
Following the investigation, Cummings received multiple citations for driving on roadways laned for traffic, operating a vehicle with defective equipment, driving without insurance, using plates not assigned to the vehicle, and driving too fast for the conditions and hazards.
